General Election 2019

Which candidate will take action on the Climate Crisis?

The candidates for the General Election on Thursday 12 December 2019 in the Wellingborough constituency are:

Extinction Rebellion Wellingborough will be asking all four candidates to commit to our three demands:

1) Tell the truth
The government must tell the truth about the scale of the ecological crisis by declaring a climate emergency, “working with other groups and institutions to communicate the urgent need for change”.

2) Net zero emissions by 2025
The UK must drastically cut its greenhouse gas emissions, hitting net zero by 2025.

3) Citizens’ assembly
The government must create a citizens’ assembly to hear evidence and devise policy to tackle the climate crisis. Citizens’ assemblies bring together ordinary people to investigate, discuss and make recommendations on how to respond, in this case, to the ecological emergency.

Further to asking candidates to commit to our demands and for an environmental statement; we are helping to organise a hustings event in Wellingborough.

We are doing this to give local people have the opportunity to meet the candidates and to ask them questions about their views and policies on issues that matter to them.

The event is called ‘Wellingborough Hustings’ and it is on Thursday 5th December at 7:30pm in Glamis Hall, Goldsmith Road, Wellingborough.
